2023 IEEE PHOTONICS CONFERENCE
BEST STUDENT POSTER WINNERS

BEST STUDENT POSTER COMPETITION WINNERS WERE ANNOUNCED AT THE
IPC 2023 PLENARY SESSION, POST-DEADLINE PRESENTATIONS AND IPC CLOSING CEREMONY
THURSDAY, 16 NOVEMBER 2023 10:30 AM-12:45 PM ET

1st Place (125 USD)
Mr. Anuj Sethia, University of Calgary, Canada
Plug and Play Measurement Device Independent Quantum Secure Communication

We experimentally demonstrate a commercially viable plug and play Measurement Device Independent Quantum Key Distribution (MDI-QKD) prototype. The sharing of critical components such as single photon detectors by multiple users makes it an ideal choice for star-type topology quantum networking.

2nd Place (100 USD)
Mr. Minseok Chae, Seoul National University, South Korea
Investigation on Étendue Expansion Property of the Lenslet Array with Converging Axes

We analyze the étendue expansion property of the lenslet array with converging axes when used for the near-eye holographic display. We take the observer’s pupil diameter into account to discuss the practical étendue.

3rd Place (75 USD)
Ms. Ella James, University of Alabama in Huntsville, USA
Spectropolarimetric Characterization of Vortex Optics

Vortex retarders are optical retarders with a uniform retardance and fast axis orientation that varies azimuthally, which generates a Laguerre-Gaussian beam. Their spectropolarimetric properties are largely unknown. This paper reports the Mueller matrix and polarimetric properties of a vortex retarder measured over wavelength range 300nm-1100nm.
